In the Eastern Shan State, there are so many cases of migrant workers and drug abuses that affect the children education, health and social wellbeing. Children also have to face forced labour, sexual abuse, unable to get children rights and educational problems. We try to fix and promote safety since the beginning of our establishment. There are other factors such as normative and cumulative nature of ethnic groups.
After a long time, Child Protection stands as part of the human trafficking program. So we finally decided child protection will get its standalone project, that will make a better growing and safe environment for the children.
Mawk Kon Local Development Organization child protection project is going on with its five year cycle. The objective of the project is to establish community base child protection system in Shan.
During this period, following activities were implemented –
- Proper awareness leads to proper action. One day community awareness raising is conducted to the community. In this awareness raising children’s right, children’s need, children’s problems and how to solve these problems are discussed with the community.
Promoting Child participation
- Article 31 of CRC Act.18 of Myanmar Child Rights Law state every child has equal opportunities to participate in cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activities. From the child participation activities children gain happiness, knowledge, confidence and know how to deal with each other.
- Case management including reporting, how to reduce and avoid violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation in the communities.
